#13 - 어머!

In today’s blog we will be learning the expressive phrase “어머" in Korean!

You might have heard it often in K-dramas or variety shows but what does it actually mean?


어머 basically means “oh my”, 어머 can also be a short form of 어머나. Both 어머 and 어머나 can be used in various ways expression shock, surprise in both positive and negative sense. It is considered an informal tone.

어머! 방탄소년단 새로운 노래가 나왔네? = Oh my! BTS has a new song?

 

어머나! 불 안 끄고 나왔다! = Oh no! I went out without remembering to turn off the lights!

 

어머! 이게 다 내꺼야? = Oh my god, is this all for me?

 

어머나 늦잠을 자서 출근이 늦겠다! = Oh my god, I will be late for work since I overslept!
