In today’s blog we will be learning the phrase 잃어버리다.
잃다 = To lose
버리다 = To throw away
You can easily say 잃었어요 when you have lost something, but most Koreans add on 버리다 to enhance that they lost the item without meaning to.
Another way for “to lose” is 분실하다. However this is only used for losing items/things, unlike 잃다 which can mean to lose someone, a relationship, etc.
Have you lost something in Korea before? Let’s learn some important words related to lost items:
물건 = Item
분실하다 = to lose
분실물 보관소 = Lost & Found
경찰서 = Police Station
주인 = Owner
찾다 = to find
장소 = Venue/place
위치 = location / position
어디 = Where
떨어졌어요 = It fell
지갑 = Wallet
가방 = Bag
우산 = Umbrella
카드 = Card
현금 = Cash
