#36 - 새해 복 많이 받으세요

#36 - 새해 복 많이 받으세요

In today’s blog we will be learning the phrase 새해 복 많이 받으세요.

We often hear this on New Year Day (1 January) and during Lunar New Year (First day of lunar new year).

What does it actually mean?

The first 3 words are actually chinese characters 한자.

새 = 新New

해 = 年Year

복 = 福 Luck

많이 = many

받다 = to receive

받 + 으세요 = 받으세요 to receive (formal speech)

To be formal, use grammar (으)세요 to transform 받다 to 받으세요. This grammar is super useful and important to transform your basic sentences to formal Korean!
