In today’s blog we will be learning the different presents given to students before they take exams in Korean!
These items are daily items that do not help physically but their way of usage/name are double-meaning words in Korean. Thus, they were slowly used to
찹쌀떡 = Glutinous rice cake
엿 = Rice Candy
거울 = Mirror
포크 = Fork
휴지 = Tissue
찹쌀떡 & 엿 are both sticky in texture. To stick = 붇어 which can also mean “pass” in I passed the exam.
거울 can be used to see yourself clearly/well, which means 잘 봐. It means you will see(do) the exam well.
When guessing an answer in an exam, we call it 찍어 which actually means “poke” with a fork (포크).
휴지 means tissue or toilet paper.
Unfolding a toilet paper roll is called 풀어, in this situation, it is commonly used to wish them to answer the questions as easily as how a toilet paper roll is unfolded.
