#25 - 아이구

#25 - 아이구

In today’s blog we will be learning the phrase 아이구.

In our previous blog posts, we talked about 어머. Similarly, although originally an expression, 아이구 has become a commonly used verb/adjective.

아이구 or 아이고 means “oh no”, “geez”, “aw man” and “oops” all at once. Used mostly during informal speech or text messages, you might hear a middle aged Korean ahjumma mutter “아이고” when sitting down after a tough day, in that context, 아이구 or 아이고 can be treated as a groan or whine as well.

Some sample sentences with 아이구/아이고:

아이구, 핸드폰이 떨어졌어요! = Oops, I dropped my handphone!

아이고, 피곤해 죽겠네~ = Aw man, i’m so tired~

아이고, 돈이 없어요! =

Oops, I have no money!

아이고! 아프다! =

Oh my! That hurts!
